To Whom It May Concern
RE: XXXXX YYYYY
DOB: 07/07/2017
To Whom It May Concern:
My patient XXXXX YYYYY has significant and potentially life-threatening health issues related to an eating disorder. A comprehensive treatment plan for the management of eating disorders is understood to be the best strategy to prevent escalating symptoms, future complications, hospitalization, or death. Regular nutrition counseling is medically necessary as part of Ms. YYYYY’s comprehensive treatment plan to definitively address her illness and its consequences. Nutrition counseling is an essential component of comprehensive eating disorders treatment according to current national practice guidelines and standards of care (see attached reference). It must be provided by an expert dietician with experience managing eating disorders. I consider this medically necessary. Please assist.
Please feel free to call if you have any questions. I can be reached at 555.555.5555.
Sincerely,

"Assessment and ongoing management should be interdisciplinary and are best accomplished by a team consisting of medical, nursing, nutritional, and mental health disciplines. Treatment should be provided by health care professionals who have expertise in managing adolescent patients with eating disorders and are knowledgeable about normal adolescent physical and psychological development[s1] ."
